Education in Tallcree is rooted in community, culture, and care. Our schools provide safe, supportive learning environments where students are known, valued, and encouraged to succeed academically while staying connected to who they are.
With small class sizes, caring staff, and culturally grounded programming, Tallcree Education Authority supports learners from early childhood through high school graduation and beyond, building a lifelong learning community. We work closely with families, Elders, leadership, and community partners to ensure education reflects Tallcree values, language, and ways of life—while meeting Alberta Education standards.
Chief South Tallcree Elementary School offers a welcoming and supportive environment for young learners. Small class sizes allow teachers to focus on individual student needs while building strong relationships with families.
Students learn core academic subjects alongside Cree language, culture, and land-based learning. The school emphasizes belonging, safety, and confidence—helping children grow academically, socially, and culturally.
Chief Tallcree Jr./Sr. High School supports students as they prepare for graduation, post-secondary education, trades, or the workforce. Alongside Alberta-approved courses, students participate in cultural learning on the land, hands-on programming, and extracurricular activities.
Athletics, leadership opportunities, and cultural events—including the Toros sports teams—help students build pride, teamwork, and responsibility while staying connected to Tallcree identity.
Tallcree Education Authority provides daily bus service between South and North Tallcree to ensure students can attend school safely and consistently.
For questions or concerns, families may contact the school office during school hours.
Tallcree offers programs and services that help strengthen families and support children in safe and caring environments.
Support may include:
• Parenting and family support
• Cultural and land-based learning
• Wellness and skill-building programs
• Access to community services and resources
These supports focus on building family strengths and addressing challenges early.
Young people leaving care often need continued support as they move into adulthood.
Post-majority supports may be available for youth and young adults who were formerly in care, continuing until age 26 or as defined by provincial legislation.
The goal is to support stability, independence, and strong connections to community.
Tallcree’s Child and Family Services program provides prevention, early support, and protection services for First Nations children and families living on reserve.
Prevention is central to this work. Supporting families early helps address challenges before they grow and strengthens family relationships.
When protection services are required, they are approached with care and respect, always considering family, culture, and community connections.
Services follow provincial legislation and align with the national law An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families.

Sometimes children need to be placed outside the community because of immediate safety concerns, limited housing or caregiver options, or because certain supports are not available locally. When this happens, every effort is made to keep children connected to their family, culture, and community.
