Suicide intervention and prevention support

Land-based programs reconnect community members with tradition, land, and identity.

Activities include:

  • Medicine picking throughout all seasons
  • Canoeing and ice fishing
  • Survival skills training
  • Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing
  • Development of the Woodland Lake Reserve for recovery programs

These camps strengthen cultural identity and family connection through land-based learning. Activities include:

  • Drum and rattle making
  • Drum bag workshops
  • Moose drying, fish drying, and hide work
  • Traditional medicine teachings
  • Hand-games

Ceremonial drumming and dances

Programs include:

  • Beading and craft nights
  • Ribbon dress making
  • Dancing and cultural gatherings
  • Indigenous Peoples Day and Treaty Day events

Youth and young adult programming focused on identity and wellness

The annual Volleyball Camp blends physical activity with learning and wellness. Youth take part in:

  • Volleyball skill development
  • Workshops on online safety
  • Education on sexual exploitation
  • Mental wellness and suicide prevention sessions

These camps help youth stay active and connected.

Tallcree has two mental health therapists available at the North and South Health Centres and in Tallcree schools. Their work supports children, youth, adults, and families, with a focus on healing from trauma and strengthening emotional well-being.

    About Bill
    William (Bill) Klinck supports mental wellness, cultural programming, and community care within Tallcree Health. His work focuses on creating safe, supportive spaces where people can reconnect with culture, the land, and each other.

    • Cultural events such as the annual Cultural Camp

    Experience
    Bill has more than ten years of experience as a Counselling Psychologist in Cree communities across Treaty Eight. His background in hospital care, post-secondary counselling, and private practice helps him support holistic and culturally grounded wellness for Tallcree members.
