For Tallcree people, the land is our home, our history, and our future. The forests, rivers, and lakes provide food, medicines, and resources, but they are also living parts of our culture and identity. Our ancestors taught us to listen, observe, and respect the natural world, and those values continue to guide us today. Caring for the land ensures future generations will always have a place to hunt, gather, and connect with who we are.
The Lands and Natural Resources Department works to monitor, survey, and protect Tallcree traditional territory. Our team supports the Nation by tracking land use, protecting important areas, and guiding responsible management. We carry out mapping projects, traditional land use studies, and environmental monitoring to make sure that cultural regions, wildlife, and resources remain protected while the Nation’s voice is included in decisions about our territory.
Our work is guided by priorities that keep the land and water healthy for future generations:
An interactive map will soon be available online, showing traditional land use areas, forest cover, water systems, and access routes. A report a concern button will give community members an easy way to notify the Lands team about issues they see on the land.
Protecting the land is a responsibility we all share. Elders contribute stories, teachings, and insights that guide our work, while youth are encouraged to take part in land-based learning activities, workshops, and camps. These programs create space for knowledge sharing and help ensure traditional practices continue. Through language, oral history, and cultural education, Tallcree members of all ages remain connected to the land.
The department represents Tallcree’s interests in discussions with governments, industry, and environmental agencies. We take part in consultation processes to ensure any development or outside activity respects our rights, our resources, and our cultural values. Companies and organizations working in our territory can find information on permitting, land access, and request forms through our office.
The Lands and Natural Resources Department is here to support the community and provide information to those working in our territory.
Resources, including maps, land use request forms, and project updates, will be made available online.
